Dear Client,

You may remember back in March that we suffered a loss of all web hosting services due to a DNS failure at which point we announced we would be making some changes to our infrastructure to prevent this from happening again. Since then we have been working on introducing a complete new infrastructure which will ensure our DNS setup is fully redundant. We are now pleased to say that we have prepared significant upgrades to our DNS infrastructure and tests have shown good results.

Our new fully redundant DNS infrastructure will involve 3 separate nameservers hosted in diverse locations. NS1.vooservers.net will remain in house at our primary data centre in Kent. NS2.vooservers.net will be moved to the BlueSquare data centre in Maidenhead on a network external to ours. Finally a new name server will be deployed called NS5.vooservers.net which will be hosted in Pennsylvania, USA to add a completley external DNS server should anything catastrophic happen to UK connectivity. The use of these 3 diverse DNS servers would require all 3 to go down for us to have a complete DNS failure which would be very unlikley unlike the current system which would go offline should just one server fail.

In order to implement these changes we will be making some changes on Sunday 23rd May 2010 starting at 11PM. These changes will involve us updating the NS2 record to it's new location and adding NS5 to our primary domain names. During this time you should not experience any downtime as NS1 will remain online throughout the changes. If you wish to take advantage of the tertiary name server you will need to login to your domain registrar and add NS5.vooservers.net to your name server list. Once you have done this you should then notify us so that we can update your DNS zone file on our name servers. If your domain does not use our name servers these changes will not affect how your DNS works.

If you are a reseller and have your own custom name servers we recommend that you update them with the following details on Sunday 23rd May in line with our own changes. If you do not update them at this time your services will continue to work however they will not be taking advantage of our new DNS infrastructure.

NS1.vooservers.net -> 194.0.252.16
NS2.vooservers.net -> 95.154.194.29
NS5.vooservers.net -> 64.120.220.20

Finally please note that these changes only affect customers on our Linux web hosting cluster. Clients with Windows hosting services do not need to make any changes.

If you have any questions or concerns please raise a support ticket by e-mailing support@vooservers.com or by logging in to the client portal at https://secure.vooclients.com.

Best Regards,
Vooservers Management.
