Maidstone Packet Loss - 05/09/2013 02:28 to 02:54

This morning between 02:28 and 02:54 you may have noticed around 20% packet loss on our Maidstone network due to a denial of service attack which was able to saturate our upstream links. The problem was detected by our monitoring systems at 02:29 and an engineer immediatley started working to mitigate the attack. Unfortunately due to the size of the attack we also had to call some of the upstream providers to add null routes higher up in the network to prevent the traffic being sent across to our routers which meant that mitigation of the attack took longer than usual.
